ECO-SEAROUTES partners meet in Selinunte to shape the future of sustainable nautical tourism in the Mediterranean

From 24 to 25 March 2026, the ten partners of the ECO-SEAROUTES project gathered in Selinunte, Sicily, for the project’s first Transnational Workshop. The three-day event was organised by La Rotta dei Fenici — Itinerario Culturale del Consiglio d’Europa, and hosted by its director Antonio Barone at the Parco Archeologico di Selinunte, one of the most extensive archaeological sites in Europe, with ruins spanning both the Greek and Phoenician worlds.

The workshop brought together representatives from seven Mediterranean countries to define the next phase of the project and review the SmartWay methodology — the approach that will guide the creation of eco-nautical itineraries connecting busy coastal ports with lesser-known inland destinations across the Mediterranean.

Local stakeholders took part in an interactive knowledge-exchange session, contributing good practices from their territories to help build the strategic framework that will connect the project’s pilot itineraries — all rooted in the shared Phoenician heritage of the Mediterranean basin.

On an open day, three local projects presented their work: Parco Lilibeo Marsala, a centre combining environmental education, archaeology and culture; Museo diffuso dei 5 in Sciacca, an open-air museum connecting the city’s spaces with the stories of its people; and the Parco Archeologico di Selinunte itself.

ECO-SEAROUTES is co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Euro-MED programme.
